What is

Versus League?

Not for profit. All for fun.

Versus League is a non-profit that brings schools together for fun competitions around Stockholm.

Once a month, we host an event and organize sports and activities, along with equipment, referees, food, and entertainment. Schools from around Stockholm are eligible to attend and compete against each other. All events are conducted in English.

Events and locations change monthly. Sports are played according to the Nordic International Sports Handbook, which makes adjustments so games are safe and fun for all.

Versus League events build collaboration, school spirit, and excitement. And being physically active has been proven to boost self-esteem and reduce stress for students.

How it works

Each school recruits and brings a team of players from grades 6-10 to each Versus League event, where they compete against other schools. For most events, schools must bring two teams: one team of female players and one team of male players.

Space is limited for each event, and the number of schools participating depends on the competition. We generally have between 4 and 10 slots available.

Schools earn points for their results in each event. At the end of the school year, we host a day of track & field events where schools compete for the very prestigious and moose-themed Versus League Cup.

How to Join

Our goal is for Versus League to be accessible to everyone.

Our fee for a Versus League event is on a sliding scale from 0 to 3,500 sek, depending on your resources. Since Versus League is a non-profit organization, your fee is considered a charitable contribution.

The fee covers the facility rental, equipment, food, referees, medical support, insurance, and entertainment.

Schools can participate in as many Versus League events as they like. There are no subscriptions, minimums, or commitments required.

Frequently asked questions

How does my school recruit a team for a Versus League event?

We recommend recruiting players in three ways:

  • Put up posters around school (we provide the posters each month!)

  • Announce the Versus League event on your school communication platform

  • Announce the event during idrott / PE class

Different Versus League events have different team requirements, which we'll share with you ahead of time so you know how many players you need to recruit. All students must be in grades 6-10.

Can trans and non-binary athletes participate?

Yes, of course! Trans athletes can join teams in accordance with their gender identity, and non-binary athletes can join the team they feel most comfortable playing on.

What if my school can participate only occasionally?

That’s ok! No matter how many Versus League events you attend, you're still eligible to participate in the end-of-year event and compete for the Versus League Cup.

Why are Versus League events on school days?

School days make it easier for schools to compete since students are already together and there are no added logistics for parents. Weekends and afterschool are often already booked with club sports and activities, and students tend to be more excited when the events happen on school days, so they're more motivated to participate.

How is Versus League good for my school?

Versus League events build collaboration, school spirit, and excitement, and they give students the chance to be active, which has a range of benefits from increased self-esteem to reduced stress.
